Execellence - Another gem from Steve Keefe
January 22nd, 2008 11:13 AM
Excellence is not measured the same way for everybody.  We must define our own success and failure;  only we can know whether or not we are giving our best.  The pursuit of excellence determines winners not the score.

To be excellent, we must be ourselves and do the very best we can do.  In giving our best every day improvement will come naturally.  Giving our all makes us better... it is that simple.  There is a difference between excellence and perfection.  Excellence is personal best not perfection.

Another part of seeking and maintaining excellence is surrounding yourself with others who have high personal standards.  Sometimes when we are not at our best, someone else will be and that can help raise us to that level.

It may be overwhelming to tell someone they have to be Michael Jordan, or Tiger Woods, or Earnest Hemingway, or Albert Einstein.  Most would say that is impossible.  Our goal should not to be our heroes, but to learn from them and do the best possible job of being ourselves and striving for personal best.

Have a Great Tuesday.

Mortgage interest rates
January 24th, 2008 3:41 PM

Rather than rely on the media to provide accurate information regarding interest rates, consumers should call a mortgage professional they trust. Most news commentators are not experts in the mortgage industry and often pass on information that is inaccurate or is old news. Mortgage rates change daily, sometimes several times a day depending on the volatility of the financial markets. Yesterday was a good example of how volatile the financial markets can be, in the morning the stock market was down more than 300 points, investors moved funds into bonds which helped lower mortgage rates. In the afternoon the stock market reversed its losses and ended up 300 points, a 600 point gain, investors moved out of bonds, increasing mortgage rates dramatically.

While listening to the news today, the commentator quoted rates based on the events of yesterday morning rather than what had occurred over the past 24 hours. The media is into sensational stories and not so much about reporting current information. The problem with untimely reporting is that the general public believes what they have heard on the news rather than what is real. If you desire accurate information, rely on someone who dedicates their life to their profession, not someone who gets paid to read a story.

Poise - By Steve Keefe
January 18th, 2008 11:19 AM
Author - Steve Keefe, Owner/Broker of Coldwell Banker Skyridge

Poise:  Keeping your composure in spite of the circumstances.  Poise requires maturity, it is about remaining mentally and emotionally balanced at all times no matter what chaos is occurring around you.

The element of poise can make you appear much stronger in those around you than can your talent alone.  We must all work hard to not show weakness in words, facial gestures, or body language.  No matter what is being said or done to you, if you can maintain your poise and demonstrate that you can't be rattled, you will be more effective in whatever you are doing.  It is when we breakdown and don't maintain our poise that we are railed off track and rendered ineffective.

Recently, I had an experience where instead of standing tall and acting like I had been there before, I allowed my emotions to creep in and did not maintain my poise.  The outcome was less than what I had hoped for.  As I reflect on that experience and the circumstances, I would have been better served to maintain my poise, and pull the emotions out of it... sometimes easier said than done.

When we maintain our poise, those around us will see that they can not succeed in robbing you of your poise and they will know that they can not dictate your reaction.

At challenging moments, listen to that positive voice in your head that says "I am good" and "I can do this" tune out the negative and sooner or later it won't be there any more.  You will maintain your confidence and poise.

When you are able to show poise as an individual, you will set the example for others how to handle tough situations.  I try to always show to my team the path to success, I want to show them that I have been there before and demonstrate to them the way.

Poise is not about winning and losing, you can lose and still maintain your poise, however you will win more often if you are able to maintain your composure... your poise.

Have a great Friday... It looks like it is going to be a great weekend.

Steve

Buyer's Market
January 14th, 2008 11:58 AM
I can remember in the recent past how difficult it was for home buyers to find a home. If you were lucky enough to find a home in your price range, the competition from other home buyers was fierce. What a difference a year or so makes. The opportunities are abundant. I was out this weekend looking at properties in Canyon Lake and was amazed at how many great deals are out there. A couple of years ago there were only 20 listings on the MLS, today there are 208 listings for sale. What a great opportunity to find the home of your dreams.
